We are staying in a stone house which I suspect may once have been a barn. Its been beautifully renovated and decorated. We are near a village called Pernes-les- Fontaines. I will talk more about that later and load some photos.
The house is lovely and everyone is very happy. There is a huge yard with soccer goals and swings and there is a ping pong table in the garage for the kids to play.
The weather is delightful, around 22-26 each day although cool of an evening and in the mornings. The landscape is very typical, olive trees, lavender, stone and pebbles. Oh and of course - vines!
As with many of the villages around this area, pernes-les-fontaines was a medieval village with ramparts and watch towers and fortresses. Only part of the original stone wall and ramparts still stand and the old churches and local buildings have been restored as well as they could. this part of France was occupied by the Germans in WW2 so there is some war damage as well. The village has a natural watercourse running through it and has over 40 fountains - hence the name. It has a night market as well which we will visit tonight.
