Road trip - Bordeaux to Provence - stopover Montpellier

On the way from Bordeaux to Provence we decided to stop a night in Montpellier.  Good decision!  We stayed in a cheap and cheerful but clean and very good Arena hotel just out of the city.  There was a fabulous park and ride tram car park about 2 minutes from the hotel.  We parked under huge solar panels that protected the car from the sun and harvested energy for the rail network - very clever.
it was 4.50 to park for the day and catch the tram into the city and return - great value.  About a 15 minute tram trip in super comfortable and clean trams and we were in the city centre.

It is a very pretty and clean city.  it was a bright sunny day too which always helps.  there was a lovely huge main square with cafes and a market and then old windy streets off that full of shops.  All in all, well worth a visit.  The city has a really nice feel to it. Here are some photos:
