Well its almost a month now that we've been here in Bordeaux. I thought that being in one place and integrating a bit into the local community would be a good thing for all of us, I thought it would give the kids stability, normality and the chance to live like normal. However I have realised that an adult of idea of normal and a kid idea of normal are nowhere near the same thing. For the kids, this hasn't been anything like normal. They have been with us 24/7 - something none of us are used to!! They haven't been to school or played much with other kids, the days that we have relaxed and enjoyed just being in the house, they have become bored and thought too much about all the things they miss.
I think rather than settle for a month, we should have been a bit more on the go for them, kept them more occupied less time to think!
Anyway, these are lessons to learn, and once we leave here things will be at a much faster pace for the next month or so.
We leave on Friday and head to Montpelier for a night then on to Avignon in Provence on Saturday for two weeks.
Our friends Monique and Philippe came to Bordeaux and stayed 3 days with us which was fabulous for the kids, Philippe played with them and we were out and about for a few days with lots of activities, it was a great distraction for the kids.
We hosted a party for our friend Jeremy's 50th at the house yesterday, there were french kids everywhere, and after a slow start, the kids were soon integrated and playing like there was only one language - play!
The food for the BBQ was cooked over dried vines which were just smoking - the taste was amazing!! Its called Sarmene. Will post some photos ASAP.
